eme isaza is an artist, writer, and researcher based in Medellín, working with sound as a threshold between inner experience and shared space. Across art, writing, and research, listening becomes a way to examine how technology shapes culture.
Current work takes shape through Sonic Field, the listening community and archive eme co-founded and now edits, and Sonic Field Labs, its experimental research unit. Both support editorial and computational systems for studying how machines hear, generate, and organize sound. This work is also informed by ongoing transdisciplinary study at The New Centre for Research & Practice. Here, listening is both material and method, attending to particle and planet across multiple timescales while joining artistic practice to a critical reading of the systems that now listen back.
More than eighteen years of composition, audio production, publishing, and collective work inform this practice. Music is released as eme / Miguel Isaza and eme Zzz, with production and collaboration extending through Momoto Studio. Earlier work includes co-founding Designing Sound, Éter Lab, and the Auditum listening festival, alongside thirteen years as an audio and music technology editor at Hispasonic.

Su trabajo actual toma forma en Sonic Field, la comunidad y archivo de escucha que cofundó y cuya edición dirige hoy, y Sonic Field Labs, su unidad de investigación experimental. Allí desarrolla sistemas editoriales y computacionales para estudiar cómo las máquinas escuchan, generan y organizan el sonido. Este trabajo también se nutre de estudios transdisciplinares en The New Centre for Research & Practice. Aquí, la escucha es materia y método: atiende a la partícula y al planeta a través de múltiples escalas temporales, y une la práctica artística con una lectura crítica de los sistemas que ahora también escuchan.

Post-digital mystical exercise using a generative synthesizer built inside the browser to create an audiovisual space of retreat from navigation data such as network latency, battery status, cursor acceleration, and time. The project seeks an apophatic religiosity from the cyborg, holographic, data-based condition. Here mediation results in digital plasticity that translates into a listening and visualization space oriented toward a cyber-mystical encounter. A way to keep sacred silence alive inside the robot. The Bandcamp version gathers different hours, moments, and configurations of the algorithm on the same computer. It can be heard in a continuous 20-minute sweep in which different layers of the mutantexture generated by the temple mutate. A generative version is also available that can run in any browser.
Ejercicio de mística post-digital que utiliza un sintetizador generativo creado dentro del navegador para crear un espacio de recogimiento audiovisual a partir de datos de navegación como latencia de red, estado de carga de batería, aceleración del cursor y hora. El proyecto busca una religiosidad apofática desde la condición ciborg, holográfica y basada en datos. Aquí la mediación resulta en plasticidad digital que se traduce en un espacio de escucha y visualización orientado a un encuentro ciber-místico. Una forma de mantener vivo el sacro silencio dentro del robot. La versión disponible en Bandcamp reúne diferentes horas, momentos y configuraciones del algoritmo en la misma computadora. Puede escucharse en un barrido continuo de 20 minutos en el que van mutando diferentes capas de la mutantextura que el templo genera. Igualmente está disponible una versión generativa que puede funcionar en cualquier navegador.
Droning synthesizer derived from blockchain data.
Xynth is a droning synthesizer inspired by Cyclonopedia’s Xyn, summoned as a geotechnical monster derived from blockchain data. Bitcoin’s mempool, ETH gas, and Solana network activity lead oscillation, modulation, harmonic distortion, reverb, and filtering parameters. The goal is not data sonification, but sonic revelation of demonic forces underneath networks.

In chinkay, rinri attends to nature as a synthetic, changing, molecular, microsonic structure, inspired by plant surfaces. It integrates zampoña, ronroco, gaita chonta, singing bowl, eurorack systems, distortions, and signal degraders. It is vernacular lowercase, butterfly ambient, moss drone, granular synthesis auscultated between the swamp and the eucalyptus.
En chinkay, rinri atiende a la naturaleza como estructura sintética, cambiante y molecular, microsónica, inspirada en las superficies de las plantas. Integra zampoña, ronroco, gaita chonta, cuenco, sistemas eurorack, distorsiones y degradadores de señal. Es lowercase veredal, ambient de mariposas, drone para el musgo, síntesis granular auscultada entre el pantano y el eucalipto.

Our sonic demonology research group presents the third installment of its inquiries into the hidden sonic metaphysics of popular culture. Applying elemental processing to a single recording of gunpowder or bullet —without revealing which— microsonic material is extracted via noise gate, infra-editing, and exaggerated granular synthesis.

rinri continues her exploration of the Gong alongside the modular synthesizer. In luna, the composer draws inspiration from the lunar cycle to create a sonic spiral serving as a listening offering. A meditation of over 45 minutes where the ch’ixi sustains silence and noise, fundamental frequency and harmonic fractality, metallurgy and circuitry. The work functions circularly, intended to be played in a loop.

aputería is a triptych constituting the first essay of the sonic demonology group NANAY. It uses reproducible sampling, microsound, and drone techniques on compositions by Octavio Mesa, Parabellum, and Darío Gómez. Each piece extracts diluted echoes, black noise, and immortalized grain clouds, accompanied by a replicable map-text.

A dialogue where the ether functions as a common zone, in which luminiscence and sonority react to each other in a synesthetic dynamic, pointing to the full spectrum of the cosmos. This, in turn, folds its geometry into the fundamental forms of point, line, and plane, representing the materialization of elemental vibrations in diverse dimensions.
Can luminosity resonate? Can sound fluoresce? Could we consider vibration as arché or fundamental principle of all that exists?

Un diálogo donde el éter funciona como zona común, en el que luminiscencia y sonoridad reaccionan entre sí en una dinámica sinestésica, apuntando al espectro completo del cosmos. Éste, a su vez, repliega su geometría en las formas fundamentales del punto, la línea y el plano, que representan la materialización de las vibraciones elementales en diversas dimensiones.
¿Puede la luminosidad resonar? ¿Puede el sonido fluorescer? ¿Podríamos considerar la vibración como arché o principio fundamental de todo cuanto existe?

A work by Camilo Tamayo, eme Isaza and Rossana Uribe that evokes, through explorations and audiovisual distortions of matter, expansions of conscious perception, inquiring into the interaction of matter and the immaterial to thus harbor a multiplicity of spectral manifestations of color, forms of objects, and frequencies of sound. Through the use of metaphors and poetic wordplay, a cinematographic narrative is woven that portrays sonic and pictorial chimeras, seeking a conscious expansion in our consideration of reality, the powers of perception, and the manifestations of energy.
The work was presented for the first time as part of the exhibition as an Ethereal Stand at Bodega Central during MedellínDesignWeek 2017, along with other projects and pieces from the laboratory. In the same year, during the Semana de la Escucha, it was presented in a multiple projection format as part of the festival’s closing event, together with other international and national artists at the Parque Explora Auditorium.
Es una obra creada por Camilo Tamayo, eme Isaza y Rossana Uribe que evoca, mediante exploraciones y distorsiones audiovisuales de la materia, expansiones de la percepción consciente, indagando en la interacción de la materia y lo inmaterial para albergar así una multiplicidad de manifestaciones espectrales del color, formas de los objetos y frecuencias del sonido. Mediante el empleo de metáforas y juegos poéticos de la palabra, se entreteje una narrativa cinematográfica que retrata quimeras sónicas y pictóricas, buscando una expansión consciente en nuestra consideración de la realidad, las potencias de la percepción y las manifestaciones de la energía.
La obra se presentó por primera vez como parte de la exposición a modo de Stand Etéreo en la Bodega Central de MedellínDesignWeek 2017, junto con otros proyectos y piezas del laboratorio. En el mismo año, durante la Semana de la Escucha, se presentó en un formato de proyección múltiple como parte del evento de clausura del festival, junto con otros artistas internacionales y nacionales en el Auditorio del Parque Explora.
